Planning a Sustainable Phosphorus Summit in Africa

This October 2024, representatives from three UK environmental and agricultural research organizations, Lancaster University, the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and Rothamsted Research, will be visiting Ghana.

At the core of this visit is a stakeholder scoping workshop, which will pave the way towards the 8th Sustainable Phosphorus Summit (SPS8), proposed to be the first such meeting held in Africa in 2025. The focus of discussions will include priorities for enhancing sustainable phosphorus management through collaboration, innovation, and, capacity-development in Africa, and, at the global scale. Crucially, SPS8 will be a shared endeavour co-owned by local communities.

The upcoming stakeholder workshop, supported by the uPcycle Project Team, will bring together national and international experts in the newly-opened UKCEH West Africa office to develop the next steps towards SPS8 - 2025.
